My Approach to Design

My approach to designing weddings and events is very much like the way I approach interior design. I start with the space. My starting point is to look at the architecture of the space. Whether it's a historical building with high ceiling and oversize chandeliers, or an outdoor space with trees surrounding us, I will draw inspiration from the client and together we will develop a theme that would fit the setting and bring out the client's personality. I will then imagine what the space will look like with the design concept in my head and bring the vision to life.

Being in the interior design world has given me an opportunity to walk into a space and look at it in a total different way. Not only do I look at the space as a whole, but I look at all the details of the space down to the crown mouldings and door trims. Each and every element is important to the character of the space. When I am designing, I keep the integrity of the space in mind and work with all the elements. Each space is unique and each event is unique and I love to explore all the possibilities a space can offer.

My recent visit to Melville Winery is a perfect example of inspiration to me. The setting itself already began to tell a story. I felt so inspired being there, and taking in the view. I love using something as simple as a cork to incorporate into an event. I would love an opportunity to coordinate an event at a winery in the near future!

A Midsummer's Eve

I was so excited to put together this intimate gathering for a couple of friends. The roof deck was a perfect setting for this not so ordinary BBQ. We wanted the decor to be sophisticated to match the menu and that was exactly what we did. Although it was a little overcast that day, the breeze atop the roof was just perfect. It was a great day to enjoy great food with a beautiful view alongside your friends.

Independent Wedding Coordinator vs. Venue Coordinator

I've decided to write about this because as an interior designer I am often called an interior decorator so I just want to distinguish the difference between the two.

I borrowed the description from Wikipedia...

Although the terms interior decorating and interior design are sometimes used interchangeably, each discipline exhibits a distinct difference in its scope. Interior decorating is generally focused on the selection and presentation of interior items within a space, such as furniture, accessories, finishes and room layout. Interior design, on the other hand, involves manipulating the architectural integrity of the interior space.

Many couples think that they don't necessarily need an independent coordinator because they already have one provided by the venue. There is a difference between an independent coordinator and a venue coordinator. Venue coordinators are only responsible to take care of the details pertaining to the venue, while an independent coordinator will be taking care of all the details from the first time you meet til the day you leave for your honeymoon. You are able to call your independent coordinator if there is an emergency in the middle of the night and they will most likely be there for you, while a venue coordinator won't necessarily be there because it is outside their office hours.

I hope you will find this information helpful to you while you are planning your wedding. Thanks for visiting Vanda Events!

Summer Pool Party

I had such a great time planning a summer pool party for some very close friends recently. Their newly built home was a perfect setting for the party. There's nothing better than spending time with friends and family on a beautiful sunny day in the comfort of your own home. Everyone had a blast and complimented on how beautiful everything was. I don'think I will ever get sick of hearing compliments. I guess that's one of the reasons why I love what I do!

Tiffany & Peter

I met Tiffany a couple years ago through another my friend Tina. We both have one major thing is common...we're both interior designers! Our friendship has grown even closer this past year when she asked me to help her with some of her wedding planning since she know I am crazy about wedding planning!

I was thrilled when Tiffany asked me to coordinate their special day for them. Being the awesome designer she is, she already got her whole wedding mapped out. She needed me to be the "go to" person to take care of all the details on her big day. It was so great to hear the guests gushed about how beautiful the wedding was and I am so happy for the both of them. It was such an honor to be there to share their special day with them not only as a coordinator but as a friend. After a nonstop day I was so glad to finally be able to relax with them and dance the night away. I am so thankful to the both of them for believing in me and trusting me with one of the most important days of their lives. Congrats Tiffany & Peter!
